Behind the Scenes

Here is some background info on the man we all respectfully call – Boss! Some interesting twist and turns he has taken to get to Cape Town.

Guy Arkell – Guy has recently relocated to Cape Town from White River, Mpumalanga where he ran his own construction business Arkell’s Handyman Services for 14 years, carrying out residential and commercial maintenance, renovations and a major build in a joint venture project worth R 10mil.

Guy graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1977(MSc) and worked at the university as a research and lab technician for two and a half years following his passion for birding (at this time I’m sure he did not envisage himself as a future construction guru!). Mid 1979 he moved to the Lowveld as a field guide and later camp manager at Londolozi Game Reserve for 4 years. Thereafter he managed a private game farm on the Kruger border and by necessity took over the build of the manager’s house. Thereafter he was requested to build a new camp for the owners and achieved high acclaim for the quality of workmanship from the professional friends of the owners.

Guy started Arkells Handyman Services when the family left the bush for town life as their young children required early schooling. Word of mouth soon became his strongest recruiter and he gained a reputation for quality workmanship with a keen eye for detail. This strong work ethic and eye for detail lead to a very successful 14 years of business that saw Guy work on various size projects from medium renovations to major ground up building projects – Word of mouth being the life of the company.

Seeking new challenges he has taken the opportunity to specialize in the installation of Insitu (mixed on site) seamless flooring products.

Guy gained invaluable experience in construction, residential and commercial maintenance, cabinet making, joinery, kitchens, BIC’s, shopfitting, drywall partitioning, ceilings (Suspended and skimmed), plumbing, tiling, painting, decking and coupled with his outstanding work ethic Guy is surely the right man to head up Bespoke Flooring and apply all he has learned into installing floors of the highest quality.
